Obituary for James Leonard O'Neal

James Leonard  O'Neal
James Leonard O’Neal, 87 of Winifrede passed away December 27, 2016 at home after a long illness.

He was a retired United Mine Worker and was a former employee of Peterson Filters Corp. as a Service Representative to coal preparation plants. He was and still is well respected among local plants. He was a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran and was a little league baseball and football coach. He played football at East Bank High School and was an avid Mountaineer fan. He was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy, Kanawha City where he also served as a deacon and former Sunday School Superintendent.

He was preceded in death by Parents: Jennings and Searah Catherine Pomeroy O’Neal,
Sisters: Lois, Bertha Mae, Elizabeth, Katherine and
Brothers: Donald, Jennings Jr., Bob Ray and Luther O’Neal,

Surviving Are:

Wife of 66 years: Rita Mae Petry O’Neal,

Sons: David (LouAnn) O’Neal of Eleanor,
Dale (Sheilla) O’Neal of Winifrede,
James Joel O’Neal of Winifrede,
Lloyd O’Neal of East Bank,

Daughters: Connie (James) Armstrong of Winifrede,
Diana (Gene) Staley of Pinch,

Brothers: Joe O’Neal,
Lawrence O’Neal and

Sister: Charlotte,

12 Grandchildren and 21 Grandchildren.

Funeral will be 1 p.m.Friday December 30, 2016 at Leonard Johnson Funeral Home, Marmet with Rev. Chalmer Morgan officiating. Burial will follow in Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens, Glasgow. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday December 29, 2016 at the Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hubbard Hospice House 1001 Curtis Price Way, Charleston, WV 25311.
