Obituary for Madelyn Sue Bryant

Madelyn Sue Bryant
Madelyn Sue (Ferrell) Bryant, of Chesapeake, West Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, August 29, 2017, peacefully in the arms of the love of her life, Gary, and was surrounded by her loving family. She joined her precious boys, P.R. and Andy, who left this earth way too soon to wait for and welcome their sweet Mommy home, when her time on earth was done.

Susie was born on March 2, 1948, daughter of the late Richard and Audrey Ferrell.

Susie retired from the West Virginia Department of Highways where she was an Executive Assistant for 32 years. Even though she endured the heartbreak of losing her two children, she had an infectious laugh, radiate smile, and the most loving and kind spirit. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Susie never met a stranger. She had smiles and hugs for all and made everyone feel like family. She enjoyed cooking and entertaining hosts of family and friends at their home on the river or at their beloved farm in Wood County. Those of us, who were fortunate enough to sit on that back porch with her or simply be in her presence, felt her warmth, generosity, love and laughter. She loved to dance and had a zest for life.

Susie is survived by her loving husband, soulmate and best friend of 37 years, Gary Wayne Bryant, Sr. She is also survived by her adoring son, Gary (June Bug) and his wife, Kim of Charleston, West Virginia, her beloved grandbabies (as she called them), Hunter and Luke Bryant and Cassady and Destinae Schmidt; brother, David Ferrell and sister, Phyllis Remmel; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Ferrell, Patti and Vicki; brother-in-law, Glenn Ray; special niece, Robin Ferrell-Godbey Nicholson and J.R. Alderson, who were there for Susie and her family during this most difficult time.

In addition to her sons, P.R. and Andy, Susie was also preceded in death by her brothers, Andrew (Andy) Ferrell, Robert (Bob) Ferrell and her sister, Carol Christmas.

Per her wishes, she will be cremated and a Memorial Service will be held 1 p.m Wednesday September 6, 2017 at Leonard Johnson Funeral Home, Marmet. The family will receive friends 2 hours prior to the service at the funeral home. We are asking that everyone attending the celebration of Susie’s life forego the traditional black funeral attire and wear bright, vibrant colors to brighten the day as she always did. Interment will be in Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery, Dunbar at a later date.
