Obituary for Dorothy Vealey Adkins

Dorothy Mae Adkins, 72, of Chesapeake, WV, went home to be with her savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, on Friday, May 19, 2023, at her home, after a long illness.

Born December 29, 1951 to the late Walter and Delphia Vealey, Dorothy married the love of her life James Larry Adkins on June 29, 1968 and graduated from East Bank High School in1969.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 53 years, James Larry Adkins; her father, Walter Vealey; mother, Delphia Dickens Vealey Gray, and her brothers, Jess Ray and Roy Vealey.

Dorothy is survived by her brothers, Glenn (Lola) Vealey and Sonny Estep, both of Charleston, WV, and her sister, Jean Morgan of Hurricane, WV.

Dorothy was a devoted Christian. One of her favorite songs was "When We All Get to Heaven” and "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith" from II Timothy 4:7 best describes her life.

Special thanks to Jackie Williamson and to all the other loving caregivers. Special thanks to Hospice for their care in keeping Dorothy at her home. Special thanks to Dorothy’s lifetime friend, Diane Barker, who was a loyal and true friend to the end.

Funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 25, 2023, at Leonard Johnson Funeral Home, Marmet, WV, with Pastor David Cooper officiating. Burial will follow at the Massey Cemetery, Winifrede, WV. Visitation will begin two hours prior at the funeral home.
