Alma Marie Smith, age 78, quietly departed this life on Monday, December 2, 2019 at the home of her loving daughter Anita Harris in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. Born in Williamsburg, Virginia on July 14, 1941, Alma was the daughter of the late William Alvin Smith, Edith Ophelia Jones and Maggie Smith (step-mother). She was preceded in death by her husband, Curness Mann, brother William Lindsey Smith, and son Curness Mann Jr.

Alma attended the public schools of Virginia. On July 22, 1959, she married Curness Mann Sr. until his death on December 3, 1963. Alma was a beloved member of her community and she always offered an open door to those in need. She had a generous spirit and strong personality. She will always be known for her quick wit and love of her puzzle books, wonderful culinary skills, and love for her family.

Alma leaves behind to cherish her beautiful memory, children Anita Harris (Larry) of Rocky Mount, NC, Willie Smith (Linda) of Chesapeake, WV, Andre Smith of Cary, NC, Tina Mann (wife of the late Curness Mann Jr.), and one god son Carl Gilbert of St Albans, WV. Alma was also the step-mother of four sons: Curtis Russell of Kokomo, IN, Robert Russell and Keith Russell of Columbus, OH, and Ron Russell, who preceded her in death; five sisters, Mildred Jones of Washington, DC, Claudette Melvin (Major) and Martha Roane both of Ft Lauderdale, FL, Samantha Crawford (Orlando) of Cincinnati, OH, and Kathy Smith of Chesapeake, WV. She also survived by three brothers: Craig Smith of Chesapeake, WV; John B Turner and Nathan Smith of Fort Lauderdale, FL. Alma also leaves 14 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.

A homegoing service will be held on Tuesday, December 10, 2019 at 1:00 PM at the Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens in Glasgow, WV. You may share memories and condolences with the family at this time. Leonard Johnson Funeral Home, Marmet is in charge of arrangements.
