Obituary for Betty M Stilwell

Betty M. Burger Stilwell, 84 of Marmet died Monday, October 3, 2016 at home.
Mom was born on September 22, 1932. She was the beloved daughter of the late Virgil M. and Katie M. Green Burger of Chesapeake. While attending Marmet Jr. High School, she met a young man named Jr. Stilwell. As she liked to tell us, she knew she was going to spend the rest of her life with him.
After graduating from Charleston High School in 1951, Mom and Dad were married on December 10, 1951. They lived the beginning of their marriage in France. When they returned home, they settled in Marmet. They had two daughters and sons in law that they looked to as sons, and five grandsons that they loved dearly.
After almost fifty-five years of marriage, Dad passed away on Nov. 30, 2006. A part of Mom went with him that day. She wasn’t shy to tell anyone that she was ready to be with him. On Monday, she got her wish. They had a good life together, devoted to each other and memories our families will have for the rest of our lives.
Mom was a Christian, a homemaker, a former member of the Marmet Womans Club, and worked holidays at Cook Floral when it was located by the Marmet Ballfield.
She was preceded in death by Husband: Clavel Lloyd Stilwell Jr., Parents: Virgil and Katie Green Burger and her first grandson: Jerry Lee McGhee II. She would say she loved all her grandsons equally, but Jerry Lee had a special place in her heart as did all of her grandsons.
Surviving Are: Daughters and their husbands: Cathy L. and Jerry L. McGhee and their son: Michael Lloyd McGhee; Cindy L. and James H. Wentz and their sons: Nicholas James, Dylan Thomas and Dawson Matthew Wentz, all of Marmet,
Per mom’s wishes our family held a private service on Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2016. Entombment was at Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston. Leonard Johnson Funeral Home, Marmet was in charge of arrangements.
We would like to thank Doug and Janet Wiseman and Eric and Michelle Lyttle for their friendship and the kindness they showed to our mother and also thanks to good friend and member of our family, Larry Penix.
Also per mom’s request, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to the Marmet Community Fire Department Inc. P.O. Drawer D, Marmet, WV 25315.
Condolences may be sent to the family at leonardjohnsonfuneralhome.com.
