Obituary for David Lee "Dave" Kidd

David Lee "Dave" Kidd
David Lee “Dave” Kidd

On December 6, 2017, Dave, 68 of Ashford walked hand in hand with the angels to his heavenly home to meet his Lord and Savior and had a grand reunion with his family and friends that went on before him.

He fought a valiant battle with cancer, however, the Lord saw fit to call his devoted servant home. “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge shall give me at that day; and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.” 2 Timothy 4:7-8

Dave was born on March 3, 1949, in Charleston, the son of Omie (Null) and Andrew Kidd who preceded him in death. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by brothers: Charles of Cleveland, Jackie Billy, Bobby and Frankie all of Charleston, sisters: Helen Hutchinson of Michigan and Ruth Withrow of Charleston.

He is survived and leaves behind his best friend and loving wife of thirty-two years Debbie Pauley Kidd, son David Lee Kidd of South Charleston, daughters Kari Kidd (Greg) Lancaster of Mineral Wells, Sara Kidd (Dan) Harlan of Left Hand, four grandchildren: Holly (Josh) Hall of Newton, Silken, Piper and Joplin Harlan of Left Hand, one great grandson: Karson Hall of Newton, sister: Stella “Sissy” Bradshaw of Radcliff, KY and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and two little ones that brought him great joy: Allison and Easton Williams of Marmet. He was proud of each and boasted of them to everyone.

He will be remembered as a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, nephew, uncle, friend and most importantly: for his devotion to the Lord for the last twenty-six years of his life. He attended Mahone Chapel United Methodist Church in Ashford for sixteen years and most recently the Church of God of Prophesy in Charleston. During his service to the Lord he served as an Evangelist, Adult Sunday School Teacher, Lay Leader, Assistant Choir Leader, and worked with the youth. He always expressed that if one person could be saved under his ministry—it was worth it all!

He was raised on the west side of Charleston, attended St. Albans High School and West Virginia State College. He served proudly in the U.S. Army from 1969-1970 during the Vietnam War. He was proud to serve his country.

He retired from McJunkin Corporation (MRC) in Nitro as Lead Distribution Center Representative where he worked for 24 years. He was also previously employed as a route salesman at Charleston Lenin in Charleston. He loved reading the Bible, going to Church, witnessing to others about his Lord, being outdoors, college football (especially WVU), fishing and most importantly: spending time with his family and friends. He was also involved in Boone Northern Little League Baseball. To all who knew him, he was a very kind and easy-going person who never met a stranger. He was always friendly and had a great sense of humor that kept everyone laughing at family and Church gatherings.

The family would like to give a special thanks to his doctors and nurses for the loving care they provided at the CAMC Memorial Cancer Center in Charleston during his hard fought battle with Cancer. He formed a lasting bond with many of them.

Dave’s family will receive friends on Saturday December 9, 2017 from Noon to 2 p.m. at Leonard Johnson Funeral Home, Marmet where the Funeral Service will begin at 2 p.m. Rev. Patricia Bailey will be officiating along with Pastor Sue Cook and Alan Pauley. Burial will be in Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens, Glasgow.

We will always remember the precious moments the Lord allowed us to spend with Dave and fervently hope to spend eternity with him someday. We must remember that those we love don’t go away, they walk beside us every day until we are reunited with them in heaven. Dave’s prayer was that all will be ready to meet the Lord, and he will be waiting patiently for each of you. A great homecoming that will be!
