Gerald Arnold “Parky” Parkins, 74 of Ashford went home to be with the Lord on November 30, 2017 at Select Specialty Hospital at St. Francis in Charleston.

He retired from ABF Freight, Atlanta, GA after a long career as a diesel mechanic during which he also worked for Carolina Freight and Smith Transfer. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and was a local gospel musician, most recently playing guitar and singing with the Happy Valley Boys Quartet. He was a member of Mahone Chapel United Methodist Church at Ashford and attended Sherman High School, Seth.

He was preceded in death by Sons: Roger Dale and Daron Lee Parkins and
Parents: Cecil Gerald and Mosella Kirk Parkins.

Surviving Are:

Wife: Wanda Jane Harvey Parkins of Ashford,

Daughter: Teresa Lynn Parkins of Ashford,
Lisa Parkins (Don) O’Connor of Ashford,

Grandchildren: Donovan Alexander O’Connor and
Elisabeth Ann Rika O’Connor.

Funeral will be Noon Tuesday December 5, 2017 at Leonard Johnson Funeral Home, Marmet with Rev. David Kinder officiating. Burial will follow in Kirk Family Cemetery, Eplin Fork, Ashford where military graveside rites will be conducted by Daniel Boone VFW Post 5578 and a U.S. Army Honors Team. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Funeral Home.
